Clearspring Loves Developers

Justin ThorpDevelopers are the lifeblood of Clearspring, which is why we are pleased to introduce the newest addition to our team. Meet Justin Thorp, Manager, Clearspring Developer Community. Justin's role is to get to know you and your development needs and to translate those needs into better Clearspring tools.

Justin will be traveling quite a bit to meet up with you at local Dev Camps, seminars and conferences. So if you see him out there, please feel free to share your ideas on how to make Clearspring better (he also likes hugs). You can email Justin at justin@clearspring.com or reach him by commenting on his blog: http://www.clearspring.com/blog/.

Launchpad Takes Off!

When first introduced in late October of last year, Launchpad referred specifically to our customizable on-page sharing menus and buttons.  These tools -- now called Launchpad On-Page -- can be added to your Web site to enable end users to easily grab and share your content as widgets. Since its introduction, Launchpad On-Page has taken off in a big way. Over 1,000 sites are now using it.  Additionally we've extended Launchpad services into your widget.

Launchpad In-Widget services are now offered as Launchpad Standard and Launchpad Advanced. Launchpad Standard is our one-step widget sharing and tracking service that requires no coding.  Launchpad Advanced is an extensive API library that enables you to fully customize your sharing UI.  With Launchpad Advanced you can create widgets featuring your own sharing UI while still leveraging our leading distribution, contextual intelligence and tracking services. Launchpad On-Page - Liquid Layout

We recently added the ability to customize the size of the Clearspring sharing menu. This liquid layout option gives you more control over the look and feel of your web site. To learn more or see a custom-sized sharing menu sample, check out our tech docs.

Widget Spotlight

Elbonia is a small, mud-covered fourth-world country. Catbert is the Evil HR Director. Phil is the Prince of Insufficient Light. If all this rings familiar, then you'll probably enjoy our spotlight widget this month. It's Dilbert!

This popular widget lets you view the most current Dilbert comic, in color and for free.  You can also read other Dilbert comic strips or look at Dilbert strips from as far back as 2005. Go to Dilbert.com to choose from various sizes to optimize postings, including a 400x300 (popular on the social networks); a 160x300 (big with bloggers) or a 300x250 (just right for start pages). Or download it to your desktop to get a little Dilbert every day. It's compatible with Mac OS X®, Windows Vista® and Yahoo! Widgets®. The Dilbert widget also lets you to rank your favorite strips. Don't delay. Wally awaits!

Dev Tip - Launchpad

A recent change to note with Launchpad On-Page, though not mandatory, setting "unique" to "true" will make sure all instances of your programmatically-registered content (a.k.a. "blob") are unique. Otherwise if your programmatically-registered content changes, then all placement records on our servers change as well. For further information on this feature, please reference the docs at: http://www.clearspring.com/docs/tech/apis/on-page#Calling.
