Facebook

Clearspring can publish your widget as a Facebook application.

Overview

Clearspring makes it easy to transform Flash content into a Facebook application with our creation wizard. Check it out in the Widget Console; for any Flash widget, just go to the Share It -> Facebook Application tool.

How to Wrap a Widget in a Facebook Application

To add your widget as a new application, or to add it to an existing app, use our wizard to register an application with Facebook. We don't automate any screen-scraping or posting so we don't infringe on the Facebook Terms of Service. Instead, we guide you through the Facebook application registration process. Once you're logged into Facebook, the rest of the process takes place in an IFRAME on our site so you don't have to switch between windows.

Getting Started:

  1. Select the widget you want to convert to a Facebook Application from the Widget Console, or from "My Widgets".
  2. Select Publish "Share it" --> Facebook Application.
  3. You will be guided through our 5 step Facebook Application wizard.
    1. Log in to Facebook and add the Developer Application if you haven't already
    2. Give Facebook the basic details of your application.
    3. Give Clearspring your Facebook application keys.
    4. Use the Clearspring-provided Facebook callback URLs.
    5. Promote your app.
  4. Profit!
note: if you have not signed up as a Facebook Developer, you will be asked to login to your Facebook account, and sign up as a Facebook Developer. (http://developers.facebook.com)  Facebook does not support Javascript and will not permit it in your application.

Each of your widgets can be its own app, or you can publish multiple widgets together a single application-- whatever makes sense for your project.

Integration Points Clearspring Leverages by Default

  1. Left Nav - have a persistent link on the user's navigation bar.
  2. Canvas Page - allows the user to see your content in their larger canvas area.
  3. Profile - we automatically resize for the wide and narrow sizes.
  4. Requests - at the end of a successful application add, we direct the user to an "invite your friends" page.
  5. News Feed - notifications are sent upon adding and removing the app.

Facebook Application Highlights

On Facebook, you get all their added features (like drag and drop support on user profiles and intra-Facebook distribution) while retaining all our viral tools for moving widgets to other popular destinations.

Publish widget to Facebook

  • Flash widgets as Facebook apps: Widgets look, and act, just like other Facebook applications; they can be dragged around user profiles, shared with friends, registered in the directory, and more
  • Easy-to-use application wizard: A step-by-step wizard helps you create Facebook Applications corresponding to their Clearspring-registered widgets, guiding you through all the steps of setting up keys and configuring URLs
  • No Facebook-specific skills required: All you need to worry about is your core Flash widget; the Clearspring platform takes care of hosting a Facebook application, using the Facebook API, responding to callbacks, and rendering application pages -- it's write once, run everywhere
  • Full viral spread: Once a widget is set up as a Facebook Application, it can be spread virally throughout Facebook just like other applications, but also keeps our non-Facebook viral sharing services -- services that can get the widget just about anywhere on the web
We'll keep working to make your distribution simple. Give us your feedback in our Forum.
